These Terms of Use apply to the Sota Android app, published by Mykola Tolochko.

By using Sota, you agree to these terms.

What Sota Is

Sota is a messenger designed for private communication, direct peer-to-peer communication, relay-assisted delivery, and offline nearby mesh communication using technologies such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Sota is currently in beta. Some features may fail, be delayed, or behave differently depending on device model, Android version, battery restrictions, network conditions, carrier restrictions, and nearby device availability.

No Emergency Use

Sota is not an emergency service. Do not rely on Sota to contact emergency services, police, ambulance, rescue services, military command, or any other life-critical service.

Offline mesh communication can be useful when internet access is unavailable, but delivery is not guaranteed.

Your Identity and Recovery

Sota creates a cryptographic identity on your device. You are responsible for saving your 24-word recovery phrase or encrypted backup.

If you lose your device keys and do not have a recovery phrase, encrypted backup, or paired-device backup, Mykola Tolochko cannot recover your identity for you.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to use Sota to:

• violate applicable law;
• threaten, harass, exploit, or abuse others;
• distribute malware or harmful content;
• attempt to disrupt Sota infrastructure or other users’ devices;
• impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity;
• send spam or unwanted bulk messages;
• use the relay or mesh systems for unauthorized network probing or attacks.

User Content

You are responsible for the messages, calls, files, media, profile information, stories, groups, channels, and other content you create, send, receive, or store using Sota.

Recipients may save, copy, screenshot, forward, or otherwise retain content you send, even if you delete it locally or request deletion.

User-Generated Content, Blocking, and Reports

Sota lets users create and share user-generated content, including messages, media, stories, public or private groups, public or private channels, comments, profile information, handles, and invitations.

You must not use Sota to create, publish, forward, or distribute content that is illegal, abusive, exploitative, hateful, violent, harassing, sexually exploitative, non-consensual, spam, malware, or otherwise harmful.

You must not create, publish, forward, request, store, or distribute Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSAE) content or any content that sexualizes, exploits, grooms, coerces, endangers, or abuses minors. Sota may restrict or permanently block Sota IDs, groups, channels, handles, relay/offline delivery, bootstrap/DHT participation, or other infrastructure access connected to confirmed CSAE or child-safety violations, and may report such violations to appropriate authorities where required by law.

Users can block other Sota IDs locally. Blocking is device-side and protocol-side: Sota may stop showing or accepting messages, calls, stories, notifications, or other traffic from the blocked Sota ID on that user’s device.

Because Sota is a peer-to-peer and relay-assisted messenger, the developer cannot delete content that has already been delivered to other users’ devices. However, users may report abuse by contacting wmcurrency@zohomail.eu and including the relevant Sota ID, group ID, channel ID, public handle, story, message details, timestamp, and optional screenshots or exported evidence.

After a confirmed abuse report or legal request, the developer may restrict use of Sota infrastructure, including removing or blocking public directory entries, public handles, group or channel discovery, relay access, offline delivery, or bootstrap/DHT participation for specific Sota IDs, groups, channels, handles, or abusive traffic patterns.

Availability

Sota may use direct connections, nearby mesh, relay, offline inbox, DHT, or TURN-style infrastructure. These systems may be unavailable, rate-limited, changed, or disabled as the beta evolves.

The developer does not guarantee uninterrupted service, message delivery, call quality, media transfer speed, or successful offline connectivity.

Security

Sota uses cryptographic mechanisms and Android platform protections, but no software can guarantee absolute security.

You are responsible for protecting your device, recovery phrase, backup files, biometric access, and app data.

Updates

Sota may change over time. Features, permissions, server behavior, and compatibility may be updated to improve reliability, safety, legal compliance, or platform compatibility.

Termination

You may stop using Sota at any time. You can delete local app data using the in-app reset option, Android app settings, or uninstalling the app.

The developer may restrict access to relay or bootstrap infrastructure to protect users, prevent abuse, comply with law, or maintain service stability.

Sota is provided “as is” and “as available” to the maximum extent permitted by law.
